Biography
Houston-based attorney Julie Ketterman’s areas of legal practice include family law, federal and state criminal defense, juvenile law, appellate law and mediation. The heartbeat behind her work, however, is defending the rights of families battling Child Protection Services (CPS).
Created in the 1950s, CPS’ motto is “best interest” of the child, but what has been lost is more precious and fundamental – the constitutional rights of the parents. Each mother and father has the fundamental, constitutional right to parent their child without government interference. This is not something that can just be tossed aside by CPS investigators, caseworkers and supervisors. This right cannot be ignored by foster parents, guardians, CASA and attorneys. Ketterman has fought CPS... and won. She has a passion for protecting families from false child-abuse or neglect allegations and the resulting government intrusion.
Ketterman practices law in Harris, Galveston, Brazoria and Waller Counties. Her memberships include: U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas; Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; State Bar Grievance Committee 2007-2009 (Committee Chair 2007 & 2009); State Bar Crime Victim’s Committee 2008-2010; State Bar CPS Committee 2008-2010; The College of the State Bar of Texas 2008; Cambridge Who’s Who; State Bar Pro Bono College 2013; State Bar Child Abuse and Neglect Committee 2013; The College of The State Bar of Texas 2008 and 2013.
Ketterman was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1999. She received her B.A. Criminal Justice / Legal Emphasis from The University of Texas at San Antonio (1995) and her J.D. from The South Texas College of Law (1999).
